From Zero to MVP: Establishing Design Processes for an AI-Powered Sustainability Startup
Detailing the design strategy, process establishment, and successful UX/UI execution for a high-impact AI MVP aimed at sustainable logistics.
Project linkWhile the desire for sustainable living is growing, users often lack the tools to easily track their food waste, understand their environmental impact, or know what to cook with what they already have.
FoodX was conceptualized to solve this by acting as an AI-powered sustainability companion. The challenge wasn't just designing an app; it was starting from zero. We needed to translate loose, ambitious concepts into a tangible MVP, establishing the design operations necessary to bridge complex algorithmic potential with clear, human-centric intent.
My Approach
To take FoodX from "Zero to MVP," I orchestrated a lean, user-centered process, balancing high-level product strategy with rapid, iterative execution.
1. Establishing Design Ops & Strategy
Before pushing pixels, I established workflows for a team of 6 designers. By implementing weekly sprint cycles and clear product requirements, we created a system that facilitated rapid, synchronized concept-to-launch execution.
2. Defining the Problem & AI-Driven Solutions
I worked cross-functionally to identify where AI could actually provide value rather than just being a gimmick. The solution centered on an AI fridge-scanning interface that could instantly detect ingredients, calculate sustainability scores, and suggest zero-waste recipes.
3. Blending Human Intent with Algorithmic Potential
We designed the core Information Architecture around seamless AI integration. The flows—from the 'Scan My Fridge' camera UI to the 'My Kitchen' inventory and social video creator—were crafted to make complex computer vision and data feel effortless to the end user.
4. Prototyping & Rapid Iteration
We transformed conceptual ideas into high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes. By visualizing the AI scanning interactions and sustainability metrics early, we could rapidly test and align stakeholder vision before handing it off to engineering.
